Product information "Balafon Manjai"

This musical instrument is used in West and Central Africa during the ceremonies of rejoicing and folkloric dances. It is made of wood (Lengue) of Guinea-Conakry, calabashes connected by lianas or son of iron.

The balafon, or bala Balani is an idiophone percussion instrument originated in West Africa. It is a kind of xylophone, or pentatonic, or seven-tone. In Malinke, "balafon" comes from the words bala (the instrument) and fon (rings).

We find balafons in many parts of Africa, all different from each other. Some are very sophisticated, some simple, others are still huge.

The first balafon was born in the Kingdom of Sosso, between Guinea and Mali. That balafon still exists and is named Soso Bala.
